"Where historic tram red meets the unstoppable energy of passage-lined avenues—crafted for city wanderers who walk everywhere and never slow down."

İstiklal Caddesi — The Street That Never Sleeps

İstiklal Caddesi is Istanbul’s great pedestrian artery, stretching approximately 1.4 kilometers between Taksim Square and the historic Galata district. The nostalgic red tram moves slowly through crowds that seem to never thin, while street musicians, shopfronts, historic passages, and cafés create a constant rhythm from morning until long after dark. It is one of the most energetic places in the city, where Istanbul’s history and modern life collide at every turn.

For me, İstiklal is much more than a famous shopping street. My very first home in Istanbul was right on the avenue, inside a historic building called Suriye Pasajı. I lived directly in the middle of the action, with the city unfolding outside my front door. Looking back, there could hardly have been a more fitting introduction to Istanbul.

Living there meant having the city at my fingertips. Şişhane Metro station was just across the street, the Tophane tram stop was about an eight-minute walk downhill, and Tünel — one of the world's oldest underground railways, opened in 1875 — was roughly five minutes away. I could step outside and be connected to almost every part of my daily life and vast reaches of the city without needing a car.

İstiklal is a street of remarkable contrasts. International brands such as Zara and Mango sit alongside traditional Turkish shops, historic arcades, independent businesses, and modern beauty retailers like Sephora. You can find familiar conveniences one moment and discover a centuries-old church or a hidden passage the next. The main avenue is only the beginning; its side streets and narrow alleys lead to smaller cafés, unexpected shops, and places that feel worlds away from the commercial bustle outside.

The street was transformed into a pedestrian zone in 1990, and its famous nostalgic tram returned later that year. Today, İstiklal remains one of Türkiye’s busiest shopping and walking destinations, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors daily. During peak periods, the crowds can be extraordinary. On weekends, moving through the avenue can feel like an adventure in itself.

Yet that is part of its character. İstiklal is never quite the same twice. The crowd changes, the sounds change, and every walk offers a different combination of people, music, architecture, and movement. It can be overwhelming, exhilarating, and endlessly fascinating, sometimes all within the same few minutes.

That energy inspired the bold red and multicolored palette of our İstiklal sneaker. The red recalls the nostalgic tram weaving through the crowd, while the varied colors reflect the storefronts, historic passages, street performers, and personalities that make the avenue so distinctive.

For The Streets of Istanbul, İstiklal represents movement, independence, and the freedom to explore. It is a street for people who walk everywhere, stay out late, follow their curiosity, and want a shoe that can keep up with a full day of discovery.

My first home in Istanbul was on İstiklal Caddesi. I learned the rhythm of the city by stepping straight into its busiest street, and its energy remains part of my story. Some streets show you a city. İstiklal throws you right into the middle of it.

The upper is cut from a handwoven silk velvet carpet. Silk velvet is one of the most prized textiles in Turkish weaving. Its dense silk pile catches the light with a natural luster, feels exceptionally soft to the touch, and deepens in character with age. Carpets like this were made to be treasured, and each one represents hours of skilled handwork.

Our artisans cut every panel by hand, placing each piece to showcase the rug's best design and protect the integrity of the vintage material. Because every carpet is different, and every shoe comes from a different section of it, no two pairs will ever be the same. Yours is truly one of a kind.

THE PROCESS

Frequently Asked *Questions*

How do I know what size to order?

We recommend measuring your foot and comparing your measurement with our SIZE GUIDE before placing your order. For the most accurate fit, measure both feet and use the measurement of your larger foot when selecting your size.

If you are unsure between two sizes, our customer service team is happy to help you determine the best fit.

What is your return policy?

Each pair is handmade and numbered. Returns, exchanges and refunds are not accepted for ordering the wrong size.

Can I exchange my shoes for a different size?

Due to the exclusive and handcrafted nature of our collection, all international sales are final.

We cannot accept returns or exchanges due to a change of mind or sizing issues. Please review our size guide carefully before completing your purchase. Please pay special attention to each shoe model's sizing on the product page.

In the event of an error on our part—such as receiving an incorrect item, color, or size—please contact us as soon as possible. We will work with you to resolve the issue at no additional cost.

How will I know what pattern I will get?

You will not know until it arrives, and that is part of it. Each pair is cut from a handwoven Anatolian carpet, and the carpet decides the pattern, so we do not show or choose it ahead of time. Every pair is different, and none will ever be made again. Because each pair is one of one, all sales are final.

When the carpet ends, the run ends.

What is Anatolian velvet silk?

A luxurious textile inspired by the rich weaving traditions of Anatolia, combining the luminous character of silk with the plush depth of velvet. Each textile possesses its own distinctive variations in color, texture, and pattern—making every pair uniquely individual.
