Cihangir Caddesi — The Neighborhood I Once Dreamed of Calling Home

Cihangir has always had a special charm. Tucked into the hills of Beyoğlu, with its winding streets, historic apartment buildings, antique shops, independent bookstores, art galleries, and neighborhood cafés, it is one of those places in Istanbul where you can spend an entire day simply wandering, discovering something new around every corner. It is eclectic, creative, and wonderfully unpretentious, with a character that feels entirely its own.

What makes Cihangir so fascinating is the mix of people who call it home. Artists, writers, designers, and hipsters share the neighborhood with lawyers, professionals, longtime Istanbul residents, and an international community drawn to its distinctive atmosphere. You might find yourself sitting in a café beside someone discussing an art exhibition, passing a tiny bookshop filled with unexpected treasures, or wandering into an antique store where every object seems to have a story. It is a neighborhood of contrasts, where different generations, professions, and lifestyles come together without losing their individuality.

Long before I moved to Istanbul full-time, I used to stay in an Airbnb on Cihangir Cd. when visiting the city. I loved the feeling of living in the neighborhood, even temporarily. Rather than waking up in a hotel and heading out to see the sights, I could step outside and become part of the daily rhythm of the streets. I would wander past the cafés, browse the antique shops, discover bookstores and galleries, and watch the neighborhood come to life. There was something about its energy, its authenticity, and its wonderfully varied community that made me feel connected to the city.

I remember thinking to myself, One day, I am going to live in this neighborhood.

At the time, it was simply a dream. I was still visiting Istanbul, returning to my life elsewhere between trips, never quite knowing when that feeling of belonging would turn into something more permanent. But Istanbul has a way of drawing you back. Each visit made the connection stronger, until the idea of living here no longer felt like a distant possibility.

And now, I do.

There is something especially meaningful about walking through a neighborhood you once experienced as a visitor and realizing that it has become part of your everyday life. The streets that once felt like a discovery are now familiar. The cafés, shops, and corners that made you fall in love with the area have become part of your own story. Cihangir reminds me that sometimes the places we dream about are not just destinations; they are places where we eventually find a sense of belonging.

Perhaps that is what I love most about Cihangir. It has never felt as though it belongs to just one type of person or one particular era. Its charm comes from the layers of life within it — the old buildings, the antique objects, the independent businesses, the creative energy, and the people who give the neighborhood its character. It is both historic and contemporary, local and international, familiar and constantly evolving. Like Istanbul itself, Cihangir is full of contradictions, and those contradictions are precisely what make it so compelling.

That spirit is also at the heart of The Streets of Istanbul. Each sneaker in our collection takes its name from a real street, but the inspiration extends beyond the street itself. We want to capture the character, history, and individuality of the places that make Istanbul unlike anywhere else. Cihangir represents the freedom to be different, the beauty of mixing old and new, and the creative energy that emerges when people and cultures come together.

For me, Cihangir will always represent the beautiful moment when a place you once dreamed of calling home becomes the place where you actually belong. Its eclectic spirit, independent character, and effortless mix of old and new are woven into the fabric of Istanbul — and into the inspiration behind our sneakers. Just as Cihangir brings together different worlds on a single street, our designs bring traditional Turkish craftsmanship into contemporary life, carrying a little piece of Istanbul’s character with every step.

The upper is cut from a handwoven silk velvet carpet. Silk velvet is one of the most prized textiles in Turkish weaving. Its dense silk pile catches the light with a natural luster, feels exceptionally soft to the touch, and deepens in character with age. Carpets like this were made to be treasured, and each one represents hours of skilled handwork.

Our artisans cut every panel by hand, placing each piece to showcase the rug's best design and protect the integrity of the vintage material. Because every carpet is different, and every shoe comes from a different section of it, no two pairs will ever be the same. Yours is truly one of a kind.

THE PROCESS

Frequently Asked *Questions*

How do I know what size to order?

We recommend measuring your foot and comparing your measurement with our SIZE GUIDE before placing your order. For the most accurate fit, measure both feet and use the measurement of your larger foot when selecting your size.

If you are unsure between two sizes, our customer service team is happy to help you determine the best fit.

What is your return policy?

Each pair is handmade and numbered. Returns, exchanges and refunds are not accepted for ordering the wrong size.

Can I exchange my shoes for a different size?

Due to the exclusive and handcrafted nature of our collection, all international sales are final.

We cannot accept returns or exchanges due to a change of mind or sizing issues. Please review our size guide carefully before completing your purchase. Please pay special attention to each shoe model's sizing on the product page.

In the event of an error on our part—such as receiving an incorrect item, color, or size—please contact us as soon as possible. We will work with you to resolve the issue at no additional cost.

How will I know what pattern I will get?

You will not know until it arrives, and that is part of it. Each pair is cut from a handwoven Anatolian carpet, and the carpet decides the pattern, so we do not show or choose it ahead of time. Every pair is different, and none will ever be made again. Because each pair is one of one, all sales are final.

When the carpet ends, the run ends.

What is Anatolian velvet silk?

A luxurious textile inspired by the rich weaving traditions of Anatolia, combining the luminous character of silk with the plush depth of velvet. Each textile possesses its own distinctive variations in color, texture, and pattern—making every pair uniquely individual.
