Crafted in Istanbul from mid-20th-century vintage silk velvet, this one-of-a-kind low-top sneaker brings the electric romance of Bahriye Caddesı to life, where historic Ottoman grandeur meets modern bohemian spirit. Luminous VANILLA/TAN tones interweave across a soft, light-catching silk pile, beautifully framed by rich Turkish leather trim and a cushioned white rubber cupsole. Because every panel is hand-cut from a singular vintage carpet, no two pairs will ever share the exact same arrangement of hues—giving you a truly unrepeatable, limited-edition piece of wearable art.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Due to the delicate nature of the silk velvet fabric, please avoid wearing your sneakers in rain or wet conditions.

To remove dirt or dust, use a soft, delicate brush and gently brush in the direction of the velvet fibers. Avoid brushing against the grain or using excessive pressure, as this may scratch the fabric or permanently flatten its texture.

Bahriye Caddesi — Where Istanbul Comes to Cook

One of the things I love most about Istanbul is that the city has a place for just about everything. If you need something, chances are there is an entire street, neighborhood, or district dedicated to selling it. Rather than driving across six different neighborhoods to compare prices and find what you are looking for, you can often go directly to the area known for that particular trade. Businesses selling similar products naturally gather together, creating commercial districts that have served Istanbul's residents and tradespeople for generations.

Bahriye Caddesi in Kasımpaşa is one of those streets. Block after block, the street is lined with shops specializing in kitchen supplies and restaurant equipment. From cookware, pots and pans, and utensils to professional kitchen equipment and all the little things that make a kitchen work, this is where you come when you need to outfit a kitchen. It is a fascinating concentration of businesses, and for someone like me who loves to cook, it is a place I can happily spend hours exploring.

There is something wonderfully practical about the way Istanbul organizes its commerce. These traditional trade districts are part of the city's identity. Whether you are looking for lighting, textiles, hardware, antiques, or kitchen supplies, there is often a particular neighborhood where generations of merchants have established themselves. The result is a city where shopping can feel less like running errands and more like discovering an entirely different world.

The surrounding Kasımpaşa neighborhood offers another reason to visit. One of Istanbul's older residential districts, it has traditionally been home to working-class and more modest-income families. Unlike some of the city's more fashionable neighborhoods, Kasımpaşa has retained much of its everyday, local character. It is not polished for visitors, nor does it seem particularly interested in being discovered by tourists. It is simply a neighborhood where people live, work, shop, and go about their daily lives.

And that is precisely what makes it special. Some of the best local bakeries, traditional bread shops, and kebab restaurants can be found in neighborhoods like this, where the food is made for the people who live nearby rather than for passing tourists. Prices are often more reflective of everyday local life, and the experience feels wonderfully authentic. You are much more likely to find yourself surrounded by neighborhood regulars than tour groups.

Istanbul is a city of extraordinary contrasts. You can spend the morning browsing designer boutiques in Nişantaşı and the afternoon wandering through the working streets of Kasımpaşa. Both are Istanbul, but they reveal very different sides of the city. For me, experiencing these contrasts is one of the greatest pleasures of living here. The real character of a city is not found only in its famous landmarks or fashionable districts; it is also found in the places where ordinary life unfolds.

Kasımpaşa reminds me that some of the most interesting discoveries in Istanbul happen when you step away from the familiar tourist routes. Sometimes the best finds are a kitchen supply shop you never knew existed, a neighborhood bakery, or a little kebab restaurant where the menu needs no translation because everyone around you already knows exactly what to order.

For me, Bahriye Caddesi represents the practical, resourceful, and wonderfully authentic spirit of Istanbul. It is a reminder that this city has always been built around people, trades, and traditions — where craftsmanship and commerce come together, and where the best discoveries are not necessarily found in the most fashionable places. That same appreciation for traditional Turkish craftsmanship is at the heart of The Streets of Istanbul: celebrating the places, people, and heritage that make this city so extraordinary, and bringing a piece of that everyday Istanbul into something as modern as a pair of sneakers.

The upper is cut from a handwoven silk velvet carpet. Silk velvet is one of the most prized textiles in Turkish weaving. Its dense silk pile catches the light with a natural luster, feels exceptionally soft to the touch, and deepens in character with age. Carpets like this were made to be treasured, and each one represents hours of skilled handwork.

Our artisans cut every panel by hand, placing each piece to showcase the rug's best design and protect the integrity of the vintage material. Because every carpet is different, and every shoe comes from a different section of it, no two pairs will ever be the same. Yours is truly one of a kind.

THE PROCESS

Frequently Asked *Questions*

How do I know what size to order?

We recommend measuring your foot and comparing your measurement with our SIZE GUIDE before placing your order. For the most accurate fit, measure both feet and use the measurement of your larger foot when selecting your size.

If you are unsure between two sizes, our customer service team is happy to help you determine the best fit.

What is your return policy?

Each pair is handmade and numbered. Returns, exchanges and refunds are not accepted for ordering the wrong size.

Can I exchange my shoes for a different size?

Due to the exclusive and handcrafted nature of our collection, all international sales are final.

We cannot accept returns or exchanges due to a change of mind or sizing issues. Please review our size guide carefully before completing your purchase. Please pay special attention to each shoe model's sizing on the product page.

In the event of an error on our part—such as receiving an incorrect item, color, or size—please contact us as soon as possible. We will work with you to resolve the issue at no additional cost.

How will I know what pattern I will get?

You will not know until it arrives, and that is part of it. Each pair is cut from a handwoven Anatolian carpet, and the carpet decides the pattern, so we do not show or choose it ahead of time. Every pair is different, and none will ever be made again. Because each pair is one of one, all sales are final.

When the carpet ends, the run ends.

What is Anatolian velvet silk?

A luxurious textile inspired by the rich weaving traditions of Anatolia, combining the luminous character of silk with the plush depth of velvet. Each textile possesses its own distinctive variations in color, texture, and pattern—making every pair uniquely individual.
