Kadırga Limanı Caddesi — A Street of Trust and Tradition

Located in Istanbul’s historic Old City, Kadırga Limanı Caddesi is a lively street lined with cafés, local shops, and small businesses, just a short walk from the Grand Bazaar. It is the kind of place where everyday Istanbul life unfolds alongside centuries of history, and where some of the city’s most meaningful discoveries happen when you take the time to look beyond the obvious.

For me, this street holds a special place in my heart because of Hamit, the owner of Motif Collection, and one of my favorite people to visit when searching for rugs. After more than four years in Istanbul, his shop remains my go-to destination for finding beautiful antique kilims and unique textiles for my home.

What makes Hamit special is not just his collection, but the way he does business. He is straightforward, honest, and refreshingly transparent. There is no inflated pricing, no unnecessary haggling, and no pressure to buy. Just beautiful rugs, genuine knowledge, and a relationship built on trust.

Over the years, I have brought countless friends and family members visiting Istanbul to his shop. For me, sharing Motif Collection is part of sharing the city itself — introducing people to its craftsmanship, its traditions, and the wonderful people who keep them alive.

Hamit also specializes in repairing and restoring older rugs and kilims. If you are lucky, you might even visit while skilled Turkish craftsmen are at work, carefully bringing these historic textiles back to life. Watching their hands work with such patience and precision is a reminder that these rugs are more than decorative objects; they are pieces of history, carrying generations of artistry and tradition.

Kadırga Limanı Caddesi is one of the streets that has shaped my experience of Istanbul. It represents the things I have come to value most about this city: craftsmanship, authenticity, meaningful relationships, and the discovery of something special in an unexpected place.

That is why I chose this street as the inspiration for one of our sneakers. To me, it represents more than a location on a map. It represents a personal connection to Istanbul and the people who have made it feel like home.

The upper is cut from a handwoven silk velvet carpet. Silk velvet is one of the most prized textiles in Turkish weaving. Its dense silk pile catches the light with a natural luster, feels exceptionally soft to the touch, and deepens in character with age. Carpets like this were made to be treasured, and each one represents hours of skilled handwork.
